Process Extensions

Developer extensibility in Winshuttle Workflow

Why use it?

Process Extensions allow legacy applications to programmatically populate Winshuttle forms and start new instances of predefined Winshuttle Workflow processes. For example, while working in a legacy financial application, a business user can automatically populate a Web-based form and start a workflow process, and then have the process automatically transfer the results back to the financial application.

How does it work?

Winshuttle Workflow Process Extensions allow developers to programmatically interact with Winshuttle Workflow processes via custom plugins that use SOAP and other communication protocols. Winshuttle Workflow provides a library of standard plugins for Winshuttle SAP web-services, connecting various legacy systems and generic external integration services. Process Extension allows developers to create their own plugins for specific integration purposes.

Winshuttle's customizable plugins extend the process with user-defined activities, allowing business users to:

  • Exchange information between SharePoint and legacy systems
  • Update external systems at certain steps in the process, such as passing information to PLM or ERP systems
  • Invoke Winshuttle processes based on externally triggered events (e.g., support requests, order entry forms)
  • Generate a PDF version of a document
  • Integrate with a Web service
  • Send bulk email notifications
